| Job Requirements Qualifications | Summary of work TBSJ is adding people to our team for E to J/J to E metadata translation (Translating/editing of movie synopses) in preparation for several large projects in December/January. Metadata translation refers to descriptions of video media like movies and TV shows. It is certainly good work for the right people. It’s enjoyable and pays quite decently. However, we should also mention our client has very high expectations and our project managers need to be fussy about translators they select for the team. Translators who can make good decisions about creative writing, even when the source text presents them with tough translation problems (wordplay, cultural humor, etc.) would do well at this. Translators interested in this work should probably google “Transcreation” to get a better understanding of what is needed. We should also emphasize people who have not translated in this area before should apply if they think they have good creative writing skills. Some translators have a knack for the work and do really well the first time, and it’s that natural creative writing ability that we really want to find. Translating or editing synopses pays by the hour because translators need to watch parts of shows and movies to check they are getting basic things right (for example, is a character male or female?) and fully understand context (All translators on the team have access to the movies and shows they are translating about). Hourly rates are decided based on skill and experience. We’d like to hear from interested translators as soon as possible. Applicants should send their resume, but don’t need to update it unless they want to add something really important. They will have to do a trial translation, which is time limited, and it is the results of the trial that will determine our hiring decisions rather than what is on people’s resumes. As mentioned above, it’s that natural creative writing ability that we really want to find. | |
